Quilting Services

Square Inch Price

I currently charge 2 cents per square inch for all designs.

Example: A quilt top is 60 inches x 80 inches. 60 x 80 = 4800 x .02 = $96.00.

My minimum quilting charge is $50. This means that a small quilt or table runner's square inch price will be rounded up to the $50 minimum.

Maximum Quilting Width is 100 inches.

Thread Charge is no more than $10.00.  Price will be adjusted for smaller quilts.  I have found that using a lighter color thread or neutral color that blends with the lightest color in your quilt top is quite beautiful on most quilts.  However, if you have a thread color preference, please let me know.

I will trim off excess backing and batting within about 1-2 inches of the quilt with a scissors at no charge.

Batting

I stock Quilters Dream Blend 70% cotton and 30% Poly.  This is a wonderful batting that leaves your quilt soft and can be washed without much shrinkage.

I will use only what is needed for your quilt and charge by the linear inch.  (smallest Side + a 5" margin) and charge per linear inch The price per linear inch depends if I can cut it from a 93" roll or if I have to cut it from a 120" roll.

93" roll price is $0.45 per linear inch.

120" roll price is $0.58 per linear inch.

Example:  60 X 80 inch quilt top:  65 inches X $0.45 = $29.25

Example:  96 X 110 inch quilt top:  99 inches X $0.58 = $57.42

You also have the option of supplying your own HIGH-QUALITY batting, or choosing a different blend such as all cotton, wool, bamboo, etc.  I can order these in by the packages and can quote you a price.

Shipping USPS/UPS/Fed Ex, Actual Cost of Shipping and Insurance

Stitches By Splatts is located in Grand Island, Nebraska, USA.  I would be happy to receive your quilt top and other materials by mail.  Please secure your quilt top and batting if supplying your own, in a hard sided cardboard box.  Please place the materials in a plastic bag before placing them in the box to protect against possible moisture during transit.  The box should be securely taped and labeled clearly.

Your quilt will be returned in the same manner described above via USPS Priority mail (using flat rate when possible as this is the most economical).  USPS Priority mail comes with $50.00 of insurance and a tracking number.  Please indicated on the intake form if you would like to add any additional insurance.  It's a great idea to insure your valuables against loss or damage while with the Postal Service, but I don't require it.

Photopraphy

I am not a professional photographer, but upon completion of the quilt, I will take photos of your quilt in my studio and then text/email you those images to use however you would like.

This extra service is included at no additional charge.  I'd just ask that you credit Stitches By Splatts for the photo and/or quilting if posting it publicly.

I would also like to post it on my website and social media as advertising.  If you do NOT want me to post it, please let me know and I will respect your wishes.

Extra Services

Evaluated and discussed on a case-by-case basis.

  • Removing excessive wrinkles or creases if needed (light pressing to remove fullness/puckers is done at no additional cost.)

  • Securing quilt seams if needed

  • Minor repairs

  • Managing wavy quilt borders (those that can't be managed by light pressing)

Quilt Preparation

Quilt Top

Please press your top and backing so your quilt will load smoothly onto the frame.

Please also clip stray threads or raveling fabrics as best as you can.  (This prevents dark threads from shadowing through your quilt top.  It's impossible to get them all; however, please get what you can to make your finished top look its best!

Batting

If you are supplying your own batting, please provide a quality batting which measures a minimum of 10 inches to length and width.

Backing

  • Square up quilt backing

  • Provide a minimum of 8" wider and longer than your quilt top

  • Press quilt backing and remove any loose threads

  • Mark the top of the backing

  • If piecing your quilt backing, a horizontal seam placement is recommended

  • I will do my best to center the seam on the quilt, but it may not be completely centered due to the loading process

Payment

After the work is complete, I will invoice you.  If you live in Nebraska, I'm required by the State of Nebraska to collect sales tax.

If you are picking up your quilt, you can pay by check or cash when you pick up your quilt.  When paying by check, please make checks payable to Dawn Splattstoesser.

If I need to mail your quilt back to you, I will send you an invoice via E-Mail and you can pay using the Square link in the email.  I really do appreciate timely payments as that enables me to mail your project(s) back to you right away.
